The ID-card hang up in Britain resembles the local issues with e.g. membership of the EU. Once, or even a couple of times, things went wrong for the UK and since that time the disgust with the bloody whatever’s hasn’t diminished. Brits as a population are very aware of their chosen superiority in the eyes of higher powers; damage that and they won’t forgive that easily. ID cards and other electronic processes with a strong influence on the well-being of the population, see the NHS, of which the efficiency and trustworthiness was mangled by blundering officials, did nothing to improve the trust. So it’s no electronic ID cards in Britain while they do a good job elsewhere in Europe and Asia. Quite sad actually.
